I am a rising Senior at Alexandria Monroe High School. Confronting the climate crisis is one of, if not the most, important issue in today’s society. The youth of today, the ones whose future greatly depends on the well being of the Earth, are the ones who must be listened to. I started an environmental group in my community called the Alexandria Tree Huggers. Our mission is to combat the climate crisis in our town by educating the public. I have also been involved as a co-leader of our school’s recycling club. My best friend and I have run the club together since our sophomore year and we are both looking forward to getting more students involved this year. I have also been a member of Confront the Climate Crisis Campaign and was given the opportunity to perform an original song at the Craft for Climate event, which was a true blessing. Along with balancing school, work, cheerleading, and guitar lessons, advocating for a issue I care about is something that is important to me. Writing articles for YEPT has been a great opportunity for me to become a better researcher and educate myself on various areas of knowledge about the climate crisis.
